DRONE SHOW IN TURKEY: NATIONAL EVENTS AND BRAND PROMOTION SPECTACLES

A drone show in Türkiye, also known internationally as Turkey, can create a memorable national celebration, sporting finale or brand launch. Planning starts with the exact site, the intended story and the Turkish approval route. Türkiye has its own civil aviation system under SHGM; an EU drone authorization should never be presented as permission to perform there.

A national celebration shows the creative potential

The Republic of Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications documented a 2,023-drone display on the Bosphorus for the Republic’s centenary in October 2023. The formations included a map and the Turkish flag. This is an independent national-event example, not a Skydance project or a guarantee that the same location is available for a future commercial show.

The example illustrates why the format suits messages that an audience should understand immediately. A flag, a date, a club emblem or a product silhouette can communicate across a large viewing area without lengthy explanation. The creative challenge is to turn those images into a coherent sequence rather than a succession of unrelated icons.

For a new commission, begin with the occasion. A national celebration may need careful treatment of symbolism and music. A company anniversary might link its first product to its present identity. A sporting event can use a countdown, a team image and a final celebration. The main visual should remain recognizable at the intended audience distance.

Where a drone show can add value

Istanbul provides an obvious starting point for enquiries about international launches and major celebrations, while Antalya and the Aegean coast invite resort and destination-event concepts. Ankara may suit an institutional or corporate brief. These are commercial and creative possibilities, not claims that a particular city district, coastline or landmark is approved for flight.

Each event needs a different relationship between the audience and the image. A waterfront audience may be spread along a promenade. A resort audience may watch from a single terrace. A stadium-linked performance may have both spectators inside the venue and a broadcast camera seeking a separate angle. Decide which view has priority and test the design against it.

  • Public celebrations: focus on clear shared symbols and the movement of people through the viewing area.
  • Sports and entertainment: connect the drone cue with the wider show-control and broadcast schedule.
  • Resorts and destinations: develop a story tied to the property and location, with a realistic plan for neighboring public areas.
  • Corporate events: use the display as a reveal supported by an agreed photography and video brief.

The Turkish regulatory route comes first

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is known as Sivil Havacılık Genel Müdürlüğü, or SHGM. Its official UAS portal separates registration, flight permission and import-related processes. Requirements vary with aircraft characteristics, use and location. EASA identifies Türkiye as a non-EASA Pan-European Partner. A synchronized commercial display must therefore follow the applicable Turkish route, assessed for its actual aircraft and operating conditions.

For an overseas operator, confirm the appropriate foreign-UAS process directly with SHGM before fixing travel or advertising a performance. SHGM’s published division of responsibilities identifies foreign-UAS flight permissions and operational matters within its departments. The current forms, submission channel, supporting evidence and any necessary local coordination should be confirmed for the project. A previous domestic show or an EU approval is not a substitute.

Equipment entry is another workstream. SHGM publishes technical-conformity guidance for UAV importation. An organizer bringing a professional fleet from abroad should establish the applicable customs and temporary-entry treatment with the relevant authorities and logistics provider. Do not assume that transporting a show fleet follows the same process as carrying a single personal drone.

Confirm insurance, the responsible operator, crew qualifications, aircraft identification and the operation’s permitted limits as part of the application and contract. Resolve land access, event management, security and any site-specific public authority requirements alongside aviation approval. The exact combination depends on the location and production; there is no reliable universal permit package for every Turkish show.

Why a concept needs a detailed venue assessment

A striking skyline can hide a difficult ground operation. Before committing to a waterfront, identify a launch and landing area, public access paths, surrounding structures, vessel movements and the directions from which the audience will watch. The operational team needs to understand both the performance volume and what could enter the area beneath or beside it.

For an Istanbul concept, the waterfront view may be the creative starting point while another location proves more practical for the operating site. Keep the initial brief flexible. It is easier to adapt a storyboard during feasibility work than to change the venue after the main visual has been promised to sponsors.

A skyline render is useful for discussing scale and viewing direction, but it is not a flight plan. AI-generated images should be labeled as concepts, especially when they show prominent landmarks. Their formations and apparent distances do not establish safe separations or an approved route.

Budget the complete operation

Request a quotation that includes the creative scope, drone count, logistics, technical setup, permissions work, number of shows and media capture. International equipment movement and crew scheduling should be visible in the plan. Specify what changes if an authority requires a different site or performance time.

Agree the weather decision process, communication responsibilities and available delay window. A second date is meaningful only when the venue, approvals, crew and transport can accommodate it. If fireworks, lasers or other effects accompany the drones, each element needs appropriate assessment and coordinated timing; approval for one does not automatically cover the others.

Questions about drone shows in Türkiye

Is Türkiye covered by the EU cross border drone procedure?

No. A show in Türkiye must follow the applicable Turkish requirements and SHGM process. EU operational documents may be relevant supporting evidence, but they do not themselves authorize a Turkish performance.

Can a foreign drone show company perform in Turkey?

A project may be possible subject to SHGM’s applicable foreign-operator process, equipment-entry arrangements and local requirements. Confirm the route for the specific fleet, crew, date and site before promising delivery. Permission cannot be inferred from another operator’s earlier event.

Can we reproduce the Republic centenary show over the Bosphorus?

The creative style can inspire a new brief, but the 2023 event does not establish permission for another show. A fresh operation needs its own feasibility assessment and the relevant approvals. The design should also respect rights in existing creative work.

Can Skydance prepare a Turkish flag or branded display?

Skydance can discuss a custom creative proposal, including flag imagery, symbols and brand storytelling. Delivery in Türkiye is subject to project feasibility and the required national and local arrangements. The company is based in Slovenia and assesses international projects individually.
