Frequently asked questions
Drone Show Basics
What is a drone show?
A drone show (also called a drone light show) is a coordinated performance of LED-
equipped drones that fly in formation to create images, text, and animations in the night
sky.
How do drone shows work?
Our drones follow a pre-programmed flight path synchronized by professional flight-
control systems, so each drone becomes a “pixel” in the sky that form shapes and
animations with precise timing.
How are drone shows created?
A Skydance drone show is designed using special software where our designers turn your idea
(logo, message, theme) into a sequence of animated formations, with flight paths,
safety buffers, and testing included to ensure a smooth, reliable performance.
What drones are used for drone shows?
Skydance uses professional LED drones made and certified in EU and designed
specifically for synchronized drone light show performances, with safety systems and redundant
procedures aligned with EU / EASA operational requirements.
What is the process for putting on a drone show?
Typical steps include: inquiry - initial concept proposal - contract - design & choreography –
polygon testing - permits - on-site setup/testing – show - teardown (and optional
photo/video aftermovie delivery).
Why choose Skydance?
Skydance delivers end-to-end drone show production—creative choreography, safe EU-
aligned operations, and full permit handling—helping you create a standout event
experience and powerful marketing content across Slovenia, Croatia, the Balkans, and
the EU.
Design, size, visuals
How big is a drone show?
A drone show can scale from a small activation to a large skyline spectacle. The size depends on the number of drones, the viewing distance, the venue layout, and local safety/regulatory requirements. We design the altitude and flight “canvas” so the visuals read clearly from the audience viewing zone.
What colors can be used?
Drone LEDs can display a full RGB spectrum, including vibrant colors, smooth fades, and gradient transitions. Therefore there are limitless possibilities on the color spectrum.
What elements can be created?
Drone shows can create logos, icons, cultural symbols, text, numbers, countdowns, 2D and 3D shapes, and fully animated storytelling sequences. Effects such as waves, bursts, morphs, rotations, and cinematic transitions can be designed to fit the music and event theme.
Are drone shows loud?
Skydance drone shows are very quite. You may hear a soft hum near the launch/flight area, but in the audience viewing zone the sound is typically minimal, especially when paired with music and event audio.
What can drone shows be used for?
Drone shows are ideal for tourism promotions and city celebrations, festivals and cultural events, concerts, brand launches and product reveals, sports events and ceremonies, resort and entertainment venues, and national holidays or seasonal celebrations.
What is the benefit of having a drone show?
A drone show delivers a memorable wow moment, custom storytelling and branding in the sky, and strong social media reach through audience videos. It is scalable and repeatable for single events or multi-stop series, and it provides a modern alternative or add-on to fireworks with no smoke, noise and environment pollution.
Logistics & Requirments
How long does it take to set up everything on site?
Skydance typically needs 3–4 hours on-site to set up, run safety checks, and test the full system before showtime.
How long does it take to dismantle everything?
Teardown usually takes around 1 hour, depending on site access and event conditions.
How much space is required?
As we use takeoff and landing platform, the space required in minimal. Most shows require a takeoff/landing zone in the range of 5×5 m to 15×15 m, plus additional nearby space for the pilot station and antennas. We confirm the exact setup after a location review.
What kind of a location is needed for a show?
We need a safe and flat takeoff/landing zone, controlled access near the launch area, and a suitable audience viewing area. Skydance will advise on the best layout and safety distances
during planning.
Can you fly above the water?
In many cases, yes—with correct planning, permits, and safety considerations. Each location is assessed individually.
Can you fly above the buildings?
Usually yes. It depends on the site, local rules, and safety requirements. We can often design flight paths that work near buildings while maintaining proper buffers.
Can you fly above the people?
For safety, Skydance does not fly directly above crowds. We always maintain a defined safety buffer and plan audience areas accordingly.
What do we need to provide?
At Skydance we have all the equipment required for the show along with the electricity access and other necessities. From our customers we would only need sound system and sound master if we create a show with music and safety personel.
Pricing & booking
How much does it cost?
Skydance drone shows are typically priced at €140–€200 per drone (excluding transport) for a turnkey solution. Final cost depends on drone count and choreography complexity (number of elements and how detailed they are).
How are drone shows priced?
Pricing is usually based on:
• number of drones (show size)
• choreography complexity (design time, elements, music or voiceover addition, etc.)
• travel/transport and local logistics
• special requirements (multiple showings, custom requests)
Are drone shows expensive?
Compared to traditional entertainment, drone shows are a premium experience—but they also deliver strong value through brand impact, tourism promotion, and reusable marketing content. Therefore, when used appropriately - no, they are not expensive.
How many drones do I need?
A simple rule: more drones = bigger images, more detail, longer text, and better visibility from distance. We’ll recommend the right package based on your venue, audience size, and what you want to display (logo/text/3D).
What is the lead time for creating a show?
We recommend to contact Skydance at least 1 month prior to event to create and plan a custom show. We can also deliver faster if needed.
How do I book a drone show?
Contact us with your date and location, choose a package (100/300/500/1000), and we’ll prepare a tailored proposal including concept, logistics, and timing.
What do I need to provide as a customer?
Typically, we ask you for:
• event date/time and exact location
• key message/branding (logo files, text, theme)
• permission from the takeoff-zone owner (if applicable)
Everything else—planning, safety, and permits—is handled by Skydance.
What will Skydance provide?
Skydance provides the full production: consulting, concept preparation, professional drones, pilot crew, show choreography, on-site setup/testing, operational safety planning, and permit handling (where applicable). We can also provide electricity, sound system, and security support if needed.
What if I perform more shows one after another?
If you book multiple shows, each additional show is typically 30–60% of the original price, because much of the design and setup work can be reused.
How do I contact you?
You can simply fill out the form on our webiste or contact us directly via emails provided in the Contact page (jan.skufca@skydance.si or matic.skufca@skydance.si)
Safety & regulations
What are safety restrictions?
Safety depends on location, airspace, and local regulations. We plan safety distances, crowd management near the takeoff area, and flight corridors—so the show is safe and compliant.
Are drone shows safe?
Yes, drone shows at Skydance are very safe. Skydance follows strict EU / EASA-aligned procedures, conducts pre-flight testing, and always uses a safety buffer so drones do not fly over crowds.
Are your drones certified in EU?
Skydance operates as an EU-based operator and plans shows in line with EASA requirements and local aviation rules. All equipement used at Skydance is also EU-made and certified. Exact operational approvals can vary by country and location.
How high can you fly?
We typically fly up to 120 meters above the ground, depending on the show design, location constraints, and safety planning. We can also go higher, if needed, which requires addition permits to be obtained.
In which countries can you perform?
We primarily serve in EU countries, but can also provide service outside EU (US, Asian countries, Australia, Africa, etc.).
Why haven’t I seen more drone shows in the region?
Drone shows require specialized technology, trained crews, and careful permitting—so the barrier to entry is high. As demand grows in Slovenia, Croatia, and the Balkans, drone shows are becoming more common for major events and destination promotion.
WEATHER & CONTINGENCY
How does wind affect the show?
Wind is one of the key factors for safety and quality. Skydance can typically perform in wind up to 35 km/h, depending on the site and conditions.
How does rain affect the show?
Light drizzle is usually fine, but heavier rain can affect visibility and operational safety.
How does snow affect the show?
Snow and freezing conditions can impact safety and performance and can affect the performance. We cannot perform a drone show in heavy snow.
How does fog affect the show?
Fog reduces visibility and can make a show unsafe or less impressive. We cannot operate in heavy fog conditions.
How does temperature affect the show?
We can normally perform the show within the -10°C and +40°C temperature range.
What happens if the show cannot be performed?
If conditions are unsafe, we prioritize safety first. We’ll coordinate the best solution with you—typically a reschedule window or alternative plan, defined in the event agreement. We usually provide a 1 year reschedule window with no additional costs (excluding transportation).
